East India encapsulates some of the most striking contrasts in the subcontinent. Its northernmost section comprises the Himalayan ranges. Darjeeling, in the northern West Bengal is dominated by Himalayas with Kanchenjunga majestic on the immediate skyline and, weather permitting, Everest visible from Tiger Hill. We have combined Darjeeling with the Sikkim region.|

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01Arrive - Bagdogra by flight Bagdogra – Darjeeling (70kms/3.5hrs)

Darjeeling is popularly known as the "Queen of the Hills" and produces the famous Darjeeling Tea, one of the world's finest teas. It is also home to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 02Darjeeling

Early morning drive to Tiger Hill to see the spectacular sunrise show over the Himalaya. Leveling out at 8,500 ft (2,600 m), Tiger Hill is the highest hill in the immediate surroundings.

The first rays of the sun shoot ahead and shed light upon the twin peaks of Kangchenjunga painting it pink and then bathing it in a beautiful orange colour. From Tiger Hill, Mount Everest (29,002') is just visible, peeping out through two other peaks standing by its side. Makalu (27,799') looks higher than Mt. Everest, owing to the curve in the horizon, as it is several miles closer than Everest. The distance in straight line from Tiger Hill to Everest is 107 miles.

After breakfast, you will be taken on a half day sightseeing tour of Darjeeling visiting the Tibetan Refugee Center , which is renowned internationally for its excellent carpets, woollen wear, woodwork and leather work; the Mountaineering Institute which trains climbers of any nation and also visit the Zoo adjoining to the Mountaineering Institute

Afternoon is free to relax.

Enjoy TOY TRAIN up to Ghoom the highest railway station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Pemayangste Monastery

About 6 km from Gyalsing town is the Pemayangtse Monastery. This monastery was originally built as a small temple in the last of 17th century by Latsun Chempo. But, later the temple structure was rebuilt into a monastery.

Rabdentse Palace

Rabdentse was acknowledged to be the second capital of Sikkim. With the passing time, Rabdentse was desolated and ravages of time turned the royal capital into ruins. Located in West Sikkim district, Rabdentse is regarded as an archeological site that truly peeps into the history of Sikkim. Rabdentse ruins have been preserved by the Indian Archeological Society. Today, the ruins of this ex-capital of Sikkim act as a tourist attraction reminding the royal aspect of this place.

Sangachoeling Situated on a hill, Sangachoeling Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim. At a distance of 2 km from Pelling, the walk to the monastery takes about 45 mins. The picturesque steep hilly road leading up to this sacred place is worth the effort. Known for its simple Tibetan architecture and dazzling colours, the monastery leaves you spellbound. Though only families of Bhutia and Lepcha are allowed inside the main shrine, one can visit the monastery and admire the various ancient paintings, clay carvings and sculptures on display. The monastery is surrounded by refreshing greenery and mesmerising mountains offering you the perfect space for meditation sessions.

Day 06 Pelling - Gangtok by road (115kms/4-5hrs)

Transfer to Kolkata domestic airport in time to connect flight to Bagdogra. Meet/Assist on arrival and driven by car to Gangtok and check in at Hotel.

Do Drul Chorten is the most significant and perhaps the biggest stupa in Sikkim. Located near Gangtok, Do Drul Chorten makes a major part of the itinerary in the East Sikkim. In 1945, this holy stupa was built under the direction of Late Truslshi Rimpoche, who was the head of Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Do Drul Stupa was built in compliance with the desire revealed by Dud-Zom Rinpoche in 1944.

Research Institute of Tibetology

In the serene surrounding amidst forest of oak, ash and birch is an organisation to advance the Tibetan language and its literature on the "Enlightened one", the only one of its kind in the world of Mahayana Buddhism. Ornate woodcarvings and murals decorate the lavishly decorated interior.

Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom, Flower Show & Enchey Monastery.

In the afternoon you will be taken to visit Rumtek Monastery A 24-km drive from Gangtok, through the beautiful, bewitching countryside leads one to Rumtek. Rumtek, is the seat of the Karmapa Lama who heads the Kagyupa Sect of Buddhism.

Day 08Gangtok – Kalimpong (75 kms/3 hrs)

Drive to Kalimpong and check in at hotel.

Kalimpong - a quite little bazaar town set amongst the foot hills and deep valleys of the Himalayas, Kalimpong was once situated on the main trade route between India & Tibet and is a mixture of diverse mountain people; the Nepalese, the Tibetans, the Bhutanese and Lapchas and check in at your hotel. Afternoon visit Tharpa Choling Gompa, Thongsa Gompa, Fo-Brang Gompa & flower nursery and Zong Dog Palri from where you will have a panoramic view of the town and surrounding areas. The prayer room inside the monastery is adorned with wall paintings and there is also a rare three-dimensional mandala upstairs.

Day 09Kalimpong - Bagdogra by road (80 kms/3.5 hrs) Depart - Bagdogra by flight
